SSRS Deploy Error: rsAccessDenied : The permissions granted to user ‘MyDomain\User1’ are insufficient for performing this operation.

I just had really odd SSRS access denied error during report deploy and cannot figure out. Bing help me to locate some clue but it was buried somewhere under long forum post. So I decided to create blog to save people some time. here is exact error I received during report deploy from BIDS and I am admin on the Box and also admin on SSRS

rsAccessDenied : The permissions granted to user ‘MyDomain\User1’ are insufficient for performing this operation.

Before you try to follow my steps try to launch SQL Server Data Tools or BIDS (If running 2008/2005) using Run As Admin right click option. To do that simply right click on BIDS icon in start menu and run as admin and try to deploy your reports.

How to fix rsAccessDenied Error – I am Administrator on SSRS box

1. First make sure you truly have permission to deploy reports by going to http://your-report-server/reports then click Site Settings at the top
2. Under Site settings click on Security Tab
3. Under Security Tab make sure you are listed as proper user and verify your permission by clicking EDIT option
4. If you have all permissions and you getting  error during report deploy from BIDS:  rsAccessDenied : The permissions granted to user ‘MyDomain\User1’ are insufficient for performing this operation.

then try below

1. Go to Start menu and find SQL Data Tools (or BIDS if you running SQL Server 2008 R2 / 2008 / 2005 )
2. Right click and select Run As Administrator
3. Open report solution by going to File > Open Project/Solution
4. Deploy Report

That’s it you should not get error now.

In windows 7 UAC runs all application under limited rights so by launching run as admin it will use your Windows Identity to deploy SSRS Report
