When you open a Report Definition Language (RDL) file that was created in SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services in a SQL Server 2005 version of Report Designer, or publish it to a SQL Server 2005 report server, the file is automatically upgraded to SQL Server 2005 format. But is it possible to downgrade a RDL file so that it can be used with the 2000 version of the product again? There is no automated tool to do this, but you can modify the XML file manually to accomplish it.

To modify the RDL file

1. Change the RDL namespace:

Click here to copy the following block
Replace <Report xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/reporting/2005/01/reportdefinition" ... >
With <Report xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/reporting/2003/10/reportdefinition" ... >

2. Remove the following elements entirely if present in the RDL file:

Click here to copy the following block
<InteractiveWidth>21cm</InteractiveWidth>
<InteractiveHeight>29.7cm</InteractiveHeight>

3. To remove all occurrences of interactive sort in the RDL file, remove all elements, including the inner contents.
