By changing the WS_CHILD style bit of a window, you can make it appear as if it is disabled, even if the form is fully active and functional. These are the statements you need:

Click here to copy the following block
Private Declare Function SetWindowLong Lib "user32" Alias "SetWindowLongA" _
  (ByVal hwnd As Long, ByVal nIndex As Long, ByVal dwNewLong As Long) As Long
Private Declare Function GetWindowLong Lib "user32" Alias "GetWindowLongA" _
  (ByVal hwnd As Long, ByVal nIndex As Long) As Long
Private Const GWL_STYLE = (-16)
Private Const WS_CHILD = &H40000000

Private Sub Command1_Click()
  ' set the WS_CHILD bit
  SetWindowLong Me.hwnd, GWL_STYLE, GetWindowLong(Me.hwnd, _
    GWL_STYLE) Or WS_CHILD
End Sub
